Shatavari - another benefit
This statement is anecdotal, but we felt it beneficial because shatavari has not been promoted for this purpose to our knowledge, and has proven helpful in this particular case. The following statement is a customer testimonial.

"I began using shatavari several months ago mostly as a 'female tonic' and to help combat vaginal dryness, for which it is supposed to be very effective. I didn't expect the benefit I have received. Although I have tried other regulating herbs, I have not had much relief. My monthly cycles have always been somewhat irregular, but lately have lengthened to the point that they were lasting up to 10 days most months, and then starting on a 20-day cycle, so that essentially I was menstruating 10 days on, 10 days off. As you might imagine, this gets old quickly, especially since my cycles are accompanied by intense cramping.

"The first month after I bean shatavari, my cycle shortened to a more normal 5-day period. The length between was 23 days (28 day total cycle). Both of these are perfectly normal. The second month, almost all of the vaginal bleeding occurred within the first 2 days, with the period completely ended at 4 days. While cramping was still intense the first 6 hours, it is FAR easier to manage than what I have been dealing with for the past year.

"The vaginal dryness did not correct itself immediately, but now that I have been using the shatavari for a few months, this is becoming a problem of the past as well. I am thankful for that, but even more glad of the other benefits I have received which I hadn't even expected when I first began taking shatavari."

Note: A.O. was using Solaray's Shatavari, which is a 500 mg. root extract, once per day, taken in the evening. Any good brand would probably provide the same benefit. This is not a commercial for Solaray in any way.

Additional note posted November 2007, shatavari has been shown to have additional benefits as an anti-cancer agent in recent research. Just wanted to add that.
