The deli in our local supermarket offering free-range turkey, sliced for $4.97 per pound. When we checked the process, sliced, packaged turkey in the lunch meat area, we were surprised to find that most brands cost roughly $2.50 for an 8 oz. package ... which is actually slightly MORE expensive than the free-range turkey.
Also, a local farmer's market offers pastured eggs ($1.20) for far less than the supermarket ($2.80), although the prices for these are still just slightly higher than the average asking price for mass-produced eggs ($1.15) of the same size.It pays to shop around. We weren't surprised that the farmer's market offered better quality food for a reasonable price, but we didn't expect to see that the supermarket deli would. Check unexpected places as well, and eat for your health!
